Laura Davies Biography

Laura Davies is an English professional golfer who has achieved the status of her nation’s most accomplished female golfer of modern time. Davies began her golfing career as an amateur international player for Great Britain. In 1983 she was the English Immediate Champion and in 1984 she was the Welsh Open Stroke Play Champion. Davies was also the South Eastern Champion in 1983 and 1984. She turned professional in 1985. Davies’ professional career began on the WPGET where she won both Rookie of the Year and Oder of the Merit titles. In 1987, Davies came to the United States and won the U.S. Women’s Open. It was this victory that led the LPGA to amend its constitution. Davies has competed in the LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour since 1988. Davies became the first golfer, male or female, to win five different golf tours in one calendar year. Davies currently holds the LPGA Tour record for most eagles in a season.
