Jeremy Poincenot Biography

Jeremy Poincenot is an American inspirational speaker, performance coach, and world champion blind golfer. A native of San Diego, he played for the hometown university Aztecs until his sophomore year, when he was diagnosed with Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON), a rare genetic disorder affecting roughly 100 people annually in the U.S. He lost central vision within both eyes in two months and was rendered legally blind. Devastated by the notion he would no longer be able to play golf, a sport he loved since the age of four, he returned to the driving range with encouragement from his mother. 

With his father, Lionel, as his guide, he competed in the 2010 World Blind Golf Championship at age 20, winning with a dramatic chip-in during a playoff. Since then, he and his father have won three World Blind Golf Championships, nine U.S. B-2 National Championships, an Australian Blind Open, and an Italian Blind Open. In 2011, he was honored as the San Diego Hall of Champions Challenged Athlete of the Year.

He's been featured on ABC's 20/20, CNN's "Great Big Story," ESPN.com, and MTV's True Life. he inspires audiences to transform adversity into opportunity. He founded the C.U.R.E. (Cycling Under Reduced Eyesight) Ride, raising over $350,000 for LHON research, aiming for $1 million.
