Long Distance Swimmer Diana Nyad Speaks at Inman Connect New York

Inman Connect New York brought together approximately 3,500 technology and real estate leaders January16-20. They heard from several special speakers including long-distance swimmer Diana Nyad

The event was held at the New York Marriott Marquis. Nyad was the morning keynote speaker that Thursday and told some of the legendary tales from her swimming career.

She inspired the crowd by revealing some of the long odds associated with the feats she has completed. A full-conference ticket was $1,099 and there were several registration packages available for larger groups.

In 1975, Nyad first garnered attention for swimming the 28 miles around Manhattan. Four years later, she was back in the news for swimming from North Bimini in The Bahamas to Juno Beach, Florida.

Nyad's greatest feat came in 2013 when she successfully swam from Florida to Cuba at the age of 64. It was her fifth attempt at completing the swim and she was the first person to do so without the aid of a shark cage.

Nyad received several awards after the Cuba trip. She is a member of the United States National Women's Sports Hall of Fame, the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame and the National Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame, among others.
