Tim Tebow is a former professional American football quarterback who currently plays outfield for the New York Mets in professional baseball. He participated in collegiate football at the University of Florida, where he won the Heisman Trophy in 2007, and was a member of teams that won the BCS National Championship in 2006 and 2008. Tebow played two seasons with the Denver Broncos after being picked by them in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. In 2012, he also participated in the New York Jets. He also spent time in the preseason with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015 and the New England Patriots in 2013, respectively. Tebow won the Heisman Trophy as the first sophomore in college history, and he went on to start the 2007 season for the Florida Gators as their starting quarterback. Tebow was voted the offensive MVP of the national championship game in 2008 after guiding Florida to a 13-1 record and their second national title in three years. In 2009, his senior year, the Gators once more finished 13-1. He was the Southeastern Conference's all-time leader in career passing efficiency and total running touchdowns at the end of his collegiate career, and he ranked second and ninth, respectively, in both categories in the NCAA record book. He made three starts for the Denver Broncos in his debut season before taking over as the team's full-time starter in the sixth game in 2011. Before he was named the starter, the Broncos were 1-4, but they started to turn things around with him on the field, frequently coming from behind late in the fourth quarter to win, until they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in overtime to win their first AFC West title and their first playoff game since 2005. Despite the team's success, Tebow's potential as a starting quarterback was questioned because of his alleged poor passing skills, frequent fumbles, and the league's lowest passing completion percentage. Tebow was dealt by the Broncos to the New York Jets during the 2012 offseason. He saw minimal action there and was cut following the 2012 campaign. On June 11, 2013, he agreed to a two-year, non-guaranteed deal with the New England Patriots, but on August 31, 2013, the organization released him. Tebow signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles on April 20, 2015, after spending the previous two seasons away from football. Tebow was released on September 5, though. He did not make another NFL start despite having an 8-6 record as the Broncos' starting quarterback and guiding them to the playoffs, where they won. No quarterback under 30 in NFL history has ever started one NFL game, won it, and then never started another. Tebow committed to a future in baseball on October 1, 2016, and on September 8 he signed a minor league deal with the New York Mets. In 2017 and 2018, he participated in Minor League Baseball for the Mets organization.
