Marie Greyhounds became a dominant force under his leadership in 2012 when he received the CHL Coach of the Year award. He took the Toronto Marlies (AHL) to their first Calder Cup victory in 2018 while maintaining a.672 winning percentage.

The Toronto Maple Leafs hired Keefe as their head coach in November 2019 and he achieved a 212–97–40 record throughout his five-year tenure with three 100-point seasons and a franchise-best 115-point regular season in 2021–22.
