Sean McDonough Biography

Sean McDonough is an American sportscaster from Boston, Massachusetts, celebrated for his play-by-play commentary on various sports, including college football, the NCAA Final Four, the Olympic Games, and Monday Night Football. 

The son of the late Boston Globe sportswriter Will McDonough, he graduated from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University in 1984. After graduation, he stayed in northern New York and began his career calling play-by-play for the Syracuse Chief’s minor league baseball team.

He has worked at industry sports titans such as CBS Sports and ESPN. He was also the television voice of the Boston Red Sox from 1988 to 2004, a tenure that earned him multiple New England Sports Emmy Awards.

His philanthropic works extend through his Sean McDonough Charitable Foundation for children’s charities and cardiac amyloidosis research, a disease that affected his late father.
