Maurice Greene Biography

Maurice Greene holds four Olympic gold medals and he is a five-time World Champion. From the time he was a child and in high school, Greene participated in football and track and field. He attended the University of Kansas on a track scholarship. In 1995, Greene competed in his first major international tournament at the World Championships, but he was eliminated in the quarterfinals. After a disappointing season in 1996, Greene experienced his breakthrough season in 1997. While at the 1997 World Championships, Greene won the gold medal in the 100m. He then went on to defend his title in 1999 and 2001. Greene competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney where he won the gold medal in the 100m and the 4x100m relay. He also placed in the 2004 Summer Olympics, winning the silver in the 4x100m relay and the bronze in the 100m. Greene announced his retirement on February 4, 2008. Since his retirement, Greene has appeared on Dancing With The Stars and he is now hosting the monthly show “Greene Light.”
