Louis Varland Biography

Louis Varland is a right-handed star relief pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays. A three-sport star at North St. Paul High School, he pitched at Concordia University, St. Paul, before signing as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Twins in 2019. Varland debuted in 2022, earning his first MLB win against the White Sox. After mixed results in 2023–24, he was traded to Toronto at the July 2025 deadline. There, he became a workhorse, appearing in a league-high 86 games with a 2.45 ERA. In the 2025 World Series vs. the Dodgers, Varland started Game 4 and executed a rare intentional balk in the ninth.
