Jonathan Jones Biography

The NFL features Jonathan Jones as an expert football cornerback. He demonstrated impressive athletic abilities during his childhood while showing excellence in both football and track & field competitions. The three-state championship titles he won in the 110-meter hurdles and long jump during high school earned him Georgia Gatorade Track Athlete of the Year recognition. During his high school football career he helped his team win a state title while maintaining a 3.8 GPA and dedicating time to local youth track clubs and soup kitchen volunteer work.

Jones played corner back for Auburn University throughout his four years at the school. He received consecutive second-team All-SEC selections while winning the Zeke Smith Award for Defensive Player of the Year in 2014. He earned his Business Administration degree before graduating.

The New England Patriots selected Jones as an undrafted free agent when he entered the NFL during 2016. Throughout his nine-year career with the Patriots he participated in 132 games while starting 71 games and delivered essential contributions to both the defensive unit and special teams. His outstanding performance in Super Bowl LIII earned him the tackle leadership title while he won two Super Bowl titles with the team during Super Bowl LI and Super Bowl LIII. He joined the Washington Commanders for a one-year deal in 2025 to share his defensive expertise with the team. 

Off the field, Jones is deeply committed to community service. In 2019, he established the Jonathan Jones Next Step Foundation to support young people through educational opportunities combined with professional development and mentorship. His community service work received multiple honors when he received the Ron Burton Community Service Award in 2023 followed by the Ed Block Courage Award in 2024. He received a Walter Payton Man of the Year nomination during the 2023 season. 

Jones proved himself from being an NFL draft pick to becoming an NFL veteran and philanthropist through his dedication to leadership and resilience along with his efforts to create positive change in both football and his community.
