Joe Alt Biography

Joe Alt is an NFL offensive tackle for the Los Angeles Chargers, selected fifth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame. He grew up in North Oaks, Minnesota, and is the son of former Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle and two-time Pro Bowler John Alt.

In high school, Alt played quarterback, tight end, and offensive tackle before accepting a scholarship to play for the Fighting Irish in South Bend. As a freshman in 2021, he earned freshman All-American honors, playing 13 games and starting 12 at left tackle. 

He went on to start the next two seasons. He was a unanimous first-team All-American both years and a 2023 Outland Trophy finalist. A scholar off the gridiron, he earned a mechanical engineering degree from Notre Dame and was named a 2023 Military Bowl STEM Scholar-Athlete.

With his 6’8” frame, over 300 pounds of mass, and freakish athleticism, he is projected to be a cornerstone NFL tackle for the foreseeable future.
