Jackson Merrill entered the world on April 19, 2003 in Baltimore Maryland as a professional baseball center fielder for the San Diego Padres. The Maryland native Jackson Merrill grew up in Severna Park before attending Severna Park High School where he earned the 2021 Maryland Player of the Year title after hitting.500 with 13 home runs and 39 RBIs in his senior year. The Padres selected Merrill during the first round of the 2021 MLB Draft with their 27th overall pick despite his initial commitment to play for the University of Kentucky.

The Padres selected Jackson Merrill to start in center field for their season-opening match against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Seoul, South Korea on March 20, 2024. The 20-year-old Merrill became the third youngest center fielder to start on Opening Day since 1974 when he played his first game. Merrill became the youngest All-Star player of 2024 and the first Padres rookie to receive this distinction. Merrill concluded his rookie season with a.292 batting average while hitting 24 home runs and recording 90 RBIs and 16 stolen bases which led to his Silver Slugger Award and Padres' Heart and Hustle Award.
