Emily Sams Biography

Emily Sams stands as a leading American soccer player who defends for the NWSL as one of its top defenders. Born in Boise Idaho on July 1 1999 she gained recognition after moving to Florida where she received Florida Miss Soccer recognition in high school. She attended Florida State University for college where she won the 2021 NCAA National Championship and received the ACC Defensive Player of the Year award.

The Orlando Pride selected Sams as their third overall pick in 2023 and she quickly became a key player by leading all NWSL rookies in blocks and clearances. The NWSL Defender of the Year award went to Sams in 2024 as she helped Orlando achieve the league's best defensive record with 13 clean sheets.

Sams has played for the U.S. national team at various youth levels before making her senior team debut during 2024. Sams married Dakota Sams in 2024 while continuing to serve as a role model to young athletes including her collegiate soccer-playing sister Lizzy.
