Cody Garbrandt Biography

Cody Garbrandt entered the world on July 7, 1991, in Uhrichsville, Ohio, and became a former UFC Bantamweight Champion because of his powerful knockouts and exciting fighting style. The Sacramento-based Team Alpha Male trained Garbrandt who quickly advanced through mixed martial arts competition with his aggressive striking and unorthodox fighting style.

Garbrandt entered the UFC in 2015 by knocking out Marcus Brimage during the first round of their match. His career progressed with two significant victories against Thomas Almeida and Takeya Mizugaki which earned him Performance of the Night awards for each fight. Garbrandt defeated Dominick Cruz for the UFC Bantamweight Championship at UFC 207 in December 2016. Garbrandt won the title through a unanimous decision while earning Fight of the Night honors.

After his championship reign Garbrandt encountered difficulties in his following fights which included defeats against T.J. Dillashaw and other opponents. The bantamweight division still recognized him as a powerful competitor despite his recent setbacks. At UFC 250 in 2020 Garbrandt returned to the octagon to deliver a second-round knockout against Raphael Assunção which earned him Performance of the Night recognition. He transitioned to the flyweight division to fight against top competitors Kai Kara-France and Deiveson Figueiredo.
