Anna Chakvetadze Biography

Anna Chakvetadze is a retired Russian tennis player that reached a career high ranking of fifth in the world. Chakvetadze won eight WTA singles titles and had a career record of 296-170. Her best finish in a Grand Slam was reaching the semifinals of the 2007 U.S. Open. With quarterfinals appearances in the Australian and French Open as well, 2007 was the best season of her career. Chakvetadze originally broke into the WTA Top 100 in 2004. She had wins over both Venus and Serena Williams in her career. Back injuries forced her into retirement in 2013. Over her career, Chakvetadze won nearly four million dollars. She is currently the Russian national women’s tennis coach. Chakvetadze began playing tennis at eight years old. She ran for a seat in the Russian State Duma in 2011, but was defeated. Her father was a professional soccer player in Georgia.
