Worcester State Names Former New England Patriots Star Joe Andruzzi Commencement Speaker

Worcester State is bringing an area sports hero in to speak at commencement this year. Former New England Patriots star Joe Andruzzi will do the honors.

The ceremony is being held on May 13th at 10 a.m. at DCU Center. Andruzzi still lives in Foxborough and is bound to bring up some stories from his football career.

He will also likely talk about the impact he makes off the field now. Many should enjoy hearing the inspirational story of a player who went undrafted out of Southern Connecticut State.

Andruzzi made the greatest impact during the five years he spent in New England from 2000-05. He won three Super Bowls and was known as a stalwart on the offensive line.

Andruzzi started his career with the Green Bay Packers and played his final two seasons with the Cleveland Browns. After he retired, he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Burkitt's lymphoma.

Andruzzi went on to found the Joe Andruzzi Foundation to work with cancer patients and their families. In 2015, he was named the Walter Camp Football Foundation's "Man of the Year."
