Washington Nationals Outfielder Jayson Werth Keynotes Organic Trade Association Policy Conference

Most are unaware that Washington Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth has a second career off the field. He is the owner and operator of an organic farm in Illinois that stretches nearly 500 acres.

Werth's double life as an organic farmer made him the perfect keynote speaker for the Organic Trad Association Policy Conference. The conference took place in downtown Washington D.C. so some of the attendees from the local area were quite familiar with his baseball exploits as well.

Werth outlined his hope to own up to 10,000 acres of land at some point in his life. He also discussed his gluten-free, organic based diet.

Werth has been a member of the Nationals since 2011 and he hit his 200th career home run last season. In 2013 and 2014, he received votes for National League Most Valuable Player.

While with the Philadelphia Phillies from 2007-10, Werth had a true breakout. He helped lead the Phillies to a World Series title in 2008 and was named an All-Star in 2009.

The Baltimore Orioles originally selected Werth in the first round of the 1997 MLB Draft. He debuted in the big leagues with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2002 and also spent two seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
