Two-Time Super Bowl Champion Jim Plunkett Keynotes Rotary Club Luncheon

Almost five decades ago, Jim Plunkett won the Heisman Trophy at Stanford University and established a lasting legacy in the Bay Area. Fans were excited to see him recently as the keynote speaker at the Rotary Club of Menlo Park's Scholastic Awards Ceremony.

There were 120 students from four different area high schools who were honored. The club raises money for their college scholarship program and some money was handed out to deserving students as well.

Limited seats were available to business and community leaders. Plunkett was able to impart some words of wisdom to the student-athletes and others in attendance.

After his storied Stanford career, Plunkett was selected by the New England Patriots with the top pick in the 1971 NFL Draft. He was named AFC Rookie of the Year and led the Patriots to a 6-8 record that first season.

Plunkett spent five seasons with the Patriots and two years with the San Francisco 49ers, but he experienced his greatest professional success with the Oakland Raiders. In his first year as the Raiders starter, he led the team to a win in Super Bowl XV and was named MVP of the game.

That year, Plunkett was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year. He would later go on to win Super Bowl XVIII with the franchise.
