Track & Field Legend Carl Lewis Speaks at the AAU Junior Olympic Opening Ceremony

Anytime track and field legend Carl Lewis speaks to a room of athletes, they usually listen. He got another opportunity to inspire on Monday when he gave a presentation at the Opening Ceremonies for the AAU Junior Olympics.

The 51st annual event was held at Eastern Michigan University. Lewis held a question and answer session on the track for athletes, their parents and coaches.

He talked about letting the pressure for success come from fellow competitors. His message was particularly geared towards the parents, imploring them to take a step back and make the AAU process an enjoyable one for their kids.

Lewis is arguably the greatest track and field performer of all-time. He won nine Olympic gold medals, one Olympic silver medal and ten World Championship medals.

Lewis was the gold medalist in the long jump at four consecutive Olympics. He racked up 65 consecutive long jump victories over a ten-year period and still holds the indoor long jump world record.

During Lewis' career, he also set world records in the 100 m, the 4 x 100 m relay and the 4 x 200 m relay. Sports Illustrated named Lewis the "Olympian of the Century."
