South Carolina Basketball Coach Frank Martin Keynotes Heroes in Blue Knights of Honor Gala

South Carolina basketball coach Frank Martin gave his time to a good cause this weekend. He served as the keynote speaker at the second annual Heroes in Blue Knights of Honor Gala.

The event was held on Friday night to honor law enforcement officers. There were 17 law enforcement and citizen heroes who were recognized for their good work by being "knighted."

The gala was originally conceived by the Heroes and Blue organization after the shooting death of officer Greg Alia. They had a ceremony honoring Alia's life at the State House on Saturday.

Martin has been the Gamecocks head coach for five seasons. Last year, USC went 26-11 and made a trip to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament.

Martin was previously Kansas State's head coach for five years and took the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament four times. In 2010, KSU advanced to the Elite Eight and he was named Big 12 Coach of the Year.

Prior to becoming head coach of the Wildcats, he was an assistant on the staff for one season. He also spent time as a coach at Northeastern and Cincinnati.
