South Carolina Athletic Director Ray Tanner Speaks at Chamber of Commerce Gala

Ray Tanner is a beloved figure in the state of South Carolina for his successful career as baseball coach and second life as athletic director at the University of South Carolina.  There will certainly be plenty of Gamecocks fans in the crowd when he speaks at the Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce Annual Gala on Thursday.

The gala runs from 6-10 p.m. at Sunset Country Club.  In addition to Tanner's speech, there will be several awards handed out. 

Registration for members is $50 and non-members $60.  The deadline to register was Monday, but there may be some late spots available.

Tanner became the USC athletic director in 2012.  He has ushered the various Gamecocks programs through periods of great success.

Over his 16-year career in the dugout for the Gamecocks, he truly crafted a legendary resume.  Tanner's teams won two NCAA championships, went to six College World Series, and won the Southeastern Conference on three occasions.  

Tanner was a three-time National Coach of the Year and three-time SEC Coach of the Year.  He retired from coaching with a combined record of 1133-489-3 between stops at South Carolina and his alma mater, NC State.
