Six-Time MLB All-Star Don Kessinger Keynotes C Spire Ferriss Trophy Presentation May 22nd

Don Kessinger is a legend when it comes to sports in Mississippi. He will be speaking at the C Spire Ferriss Trophy presentation that is awarded to the top college baseball player in the state. 

The event takes place on May 22nd at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. The award recipient is selected by a panel of Major League Baseball scouts, Mississippi college baseball coaches and a ten percent fan vote.

There will be five finalists and the winner will be announced at the luncheon. Individual tickets to attend are $40. 

Kessinger was an All-American in basketball and baseball at the University of Mississippi before becoming a standout with the Chicago Cubs. After debuting in the big leagues in 1964, he became one of the best defensive shortstops in the game. 

Kessinger was named to six All-Star teams and won two Gold Gloves. He regularly led shortstops in assists and range factor. 

Kessinger finished his career with the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox. He served one season as a player-manager for the White Sox and was the head coach of the baseball team at Ole Miss for six years.
