Openly Gay Rugby Star Gareth Thomas Keynotes Dentons’ GLOW Event

The global law firm Dentons recently held a special event organized by their UK Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender and Allies network.  This GLOW event took place on June 21st to coincide with Pride week in London.

They were able to get openly gay international rugby star Gareth Thomas to serve as keynote speaker.  His presentation was titled, "Rugby, revelations and real life: an evening with Gareth Thomas.

Thomas discused his journey of coming out to over 200 members of the staff and company clients.   Hearing his story certainly proved powerful for those in the LGBT community.

Even prior to coming out, Thomas built an iconic rugby career.  He competed for Wales in rugby union and rugby league matches.

With over 100 test match appearances, Thomas was the most capped player in Welsh rugby union history until 2011.  He is the second highest try scorer in his country's history and ranks 12th all-time on the international charts.

While still active in the sport in 2009, he came out as gay.  In 2010, he was named the UK's most influential gay person by the IoS Pink List and also was named Stonewall's Hero of the Year.
