Olympic Silver Medalist Paul Chelimo Speaks at the GoGo Running High School All-Area Banquet in December

Olympic silver medalist Paul Chelimo is one of the United States' standout track stars. He is heading back to where his journey in America began this December. 

Chelimo will be speaking at the GoGo Running High School All-Area Banquet in Rome, Georgia. The event takes place on December 1st. at 6 p.m. at Berry College. 

The banquet proceeds the River City Bank/Rome Half Marathon which Chelimo will participate in the next morning. The race has raised nearly 12,000 in the last four years for the running programs at local high schools. 

Chelimo came to the U.S. and helped Shorter College capture the NAIA Indoor and Outdoor Championships in 2011. He moved on to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he was a two-time runner-up in the 5000 meters at the NCAA Championships. 

Chelimo received his U.S. citizenship through the Army's World Class Athlete Program. After finishing just third at the U.S. Olympic Trials, he shocked the track world by winning a silver medal in the 5000 meters at the 2016 Olympics. 

The medal win was the first for an American in the event since the 1964 Olympics. He followed up on that strong showing with a bronze medal this year at the World Championships.
