Olympic Medalist Gevvie Stone Speaks at Massachusetts Celebration of Girls and Women in Sport Day

Massachusetts native Gevvie Stone became a favorite daughter of her state when she brought home an Olympic medal this summer. This past Friday, she spoke at the Massachusetts Celebration of Girls and Women in Sport Day.

The event was titled "Expanding Opportunity" and held in Boston at the Great Hall at Faneuil Hall. From 10 a.m. to noon, several high school athletes and those who support them were recognized.

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association and the New Agenda: Northeast were co-sponsors. Two female athletes from each participating high school were given certificates.

Stone scored a rowing silver medal in Rio in singles skulls competition. It was her second go-around at the Olympics after a seventh-place showing in single skulls in 2012.

Stone has also triumphed seven times in the women's Championship Singles race at the Head of the Charles Regatta. She has competed at the World Championships three times.

In 2015, Stone placed fourth in singles skulls at Worlds. She is a graduate of Princeton University and Tufts University School of Medicine.
