Olympic Gold Medalist Dain Blanton Speaks at High School Assembly

Dain Blanton has used his Olympic platform to inspire many. On August 21st, he helped Trona High School in California kick off the school year and a new program.

Blanton spoke at an assembly dedicated to their Get Focused Stay Focused program. The goal of the initiative is to emphasize the importance of school, particularly as it pertains to the fields of math and science.

Blanton talked to the students about understanding what goals they have in front of them. He told them to look beyond their classes to figure out what they want to accomplish in life.

At the 2000 Olympics, Blanton won a gold medal for the United States in beach volleyball. He also became the first male competitor from the U.S. to participate in the sport twice at the Olympic level when he returned to the Athens Games in 2004.

At Pepperdine University, Blanton was an All-American and led his team to a national championship as a sophomore in 1992. He went on to success on the professional circuit and holds an AVP record with 11 aces in a single game.

Blanton was named AVP Best Offensive Player in 2003. He serves as a broadcaster covering volleyball for a number of networks and is known for his runner-up finish on the third season of the ABC reality series, The Bachelor
