Olympic Gold Medalist Brandon Slay Speaks at Summit Wrestling Club Gala

On Friday, former Olympic champion Brandon Slay will be in Summit, New Jersey for a special speaking engagement. He is the featured guest at the Summit Wrestling Club Gala. 

The event is taking place at 7:30 p.m. at Summit Elks Lodge. Slay will talk about the importance of athletics in developing youth while giving some personal insight on how it aids personal growth. 

In addition to Slay's presentation, there will be live music and raffles. Dinner will be provided by La Pastaria Restaurant. 

Slay won freestyle wrestling Olympic gold medal in the 67 kg weight class in 2000. It was originally awarded to his opponent Alexander Leipold, but turned over to him six weeks later after Leipold failed a drug test.

While at the University of Pennslyvania, Slay was a two-time NCAA champion and All-American. He is a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, Pennslyvania Sports Hall of Fame, EIWA Hall of Fame and the Texas Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame. 

From 2009-2016, Slay was a freestyle coach for USA Wrestling. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Pennslyvania Regional Training Center.
