Oklahoma City Head Coach Billy Donovan Speaks at Thunder Coaches Clinic

The Oklahoma City Thunder have had a defined culture since they arrived in town in 2008. For seven years, they have taken their philosophies to the community with the Thunder Coaches Clinic.

On Saturday, Thunder head coach Billy Donovan served as the headline speaker for the event inside the Chesapeake Energy Arena. Donovan shared some personal stories and talked about obstacles he has had to overcome as a coach.

He also talked about how finding what drives people will help cut down on problems within a team. There were several other speakers in attendance that preceded Donovan, including former Indiana head coach Tom Crean

Donovan has coached the Thunder for two seasons and he took the team to the Western Conference Finals in his first year. In season two, he unleashed point guard Russell Westbrook on the NBA and he became the first player to average a triple-double for the season since Oscar Robertson in 1962.

Prior to arriving in Oklahoma City, Donovan was the head coach at the University of Florida for 19 years. He turned the Gators into a basketball power and the team won back-to-back NCAA Championships in 2006 and 2007.

Donovan's UF teams won six Southeastern Conference regular season titles. He got his first head coaching gig at Marshall University after serving as an assistant at the University of Kentucky.
