Notre Dame Icon Rudy Ruettiger to Star in Broadway Show

Notre Dame icon Rudy Ruettiger has had the distinction of having his life profiled by a major film and now his story will also head to Broadway. For one night on February 11, Ruettiger will take to the stage at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre for "Dream Big: Rudy Ruettiger Live on Broadway."

He will bring life to his story, taking the audience through his time at Notre Dame through the legacy he has built since leaving South Bend. Ruettiger will also talk about how the iconic film, "Rudy," got made.

Tickets for "Dream Big: Rudy Ruettiger Live on Broadway" went on sale Monday. The play has been adapted from the Emmy winning documentary, "Rudy Ruettiger: The Walk-On."

After spending time in the Navy, working at a power plant and attending Holy Cross College, Ruettiger walked on to the Notre Dame football team in 1974. He earned a place on the scout team despite being just 5'6" and 165 pounds.

In his final game for the Irish, Ruettiger actually got into the game and recorded a sack. He was carried off the field by his teammates, which in part led to his status as an iconic part of the school's football history.

Ruettiger has gone on to become one of the top motivational speakers from the world of sports and he is a member of the Speakers Hall of Fame. As the co-founder of the Rudy Foundation, he helps award scholarships in education, sports and the performing arts for kids in underprivileged communities.
