NHL Legend Wayne Gretzky Headlines Heritage Classic Alumni Game

There are not many opportunities to see "The Great One" get back out on to the ice, but next fall the NHL schedule opens up a chance to see legend Wayne Gretzky skate again.  Gretzky will headline the festivities for the latest announced Tim Horton's Heritage Classic in Winnipeg.

The day before the actual showdown between the Winnipeg Jets and Edmonton Oilers, there will be an alumni game at Investors Group Field.  The October 22nd game will feature Gretzky once again donning Oilers gear while other greats like Mark Messier join in the action.

Winnipeg and Edmonton have history that dates to the World Hockey Association in the 1970s.  It will be the fourth edition of the Tim Horton's Heritage Classic.

Gretzky's records stand alone in the history of the sport.  His 2,857 points over 20 NHL seasons are likely to never be topped again.  His nine Hart Trophies as league MVP are a North American sports record.

Edmonton was led by Gretzky to four Stanley Cup championships in the 1980s.  He made 15 All-NHL first or second teams.

Upon his retirement in 1999, Gretzky was immediately inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.  He has since diversified his interests into an array of business pursuits and remains one of the best ambassadors hockey has.
