Nebraska Football Coach Mike Riley Speaks at Boys and Girls Clubs Luncheon

As the head football coach of the University of Nebraska, Mike Riley holds a special place in the minds of fans throughout the state. On Wednesday, he served as keynote speaker at the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Midlands annual scholarship luncheon. 

The event was held at Metro Community College in Omaha. There were 44 college students on hand who received a total of over $100,000 in scholarship money. 

Bestselling author Catrice Johnson also served as a keynote speaker. The scholarship program was originally started in 1986. 

Riley has been the head coach of the Cornhuskers for the past two seasons. Last year, Nebraska went 9-4, finished second in the Big Ten West Division and made an appearance in the Music City Bowl. 

Riley was the head coach at Oregon State for 14 seasons. The Beavers won at least nine games four times and recorded four top 25 finishes under his watch. 

In 2008, Riley was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year. He also had tenures as a head coach of the Canadian Football League's Winnipeg Blue Bombers and NFL's San Diego Chargers.
