Modell's Sporting Goods wanted the opening of their only Boston store to be a big event.  To accomplish the goal, they enlisted the help of NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal.

O'Neal came in on a duck boat down Boylston Street with other dignitaries.  He posted for pictures and also held a special signing event later in the afternoon.

Fans who purchased a Shaq Tee got to receive an autograph from O'Neal from 4:45-5:45 p.m.  Modell's also did some cross promoting with the ex-MVP big man and actor Verne Troyer.

O'Neal dominated basketball like perhaps no athlete before him.  He was a 15-time All-Star in his 19-year career in the NBA.

Overall, O'Neal won four championships and was NBA Finals MVP on three occasions.  The same season he won his first title with the Los Angeles Lakers, he was also named league MVP.

Today, O'Neal still flashes the unmistakeable personality that made him a crossover star into music and film as a player.  He is currently an analyst on one of the most pouplar studio shows in sports, TNT's Inside the NBA.
