Mixed Martial Arts Fighter Matt Hamill Speaks at ADA Committee Celebration July 27th

Preparations are being made for a celebration of the 27th anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act. As a deaf athlete, mixed martial arts fighter Matt Hamill is an especially poignant choice to speak.

The event takes place on June 27th, starting at the Kallet Civic Center at 9:30 a.m. and concluding in Downtown Oneida at 11 a.m. In addition to speaking, Hamill will also take part in a meet and greet.

The ceremony was approved by the City of Oneida Common Council earlier this month. The ADA Committee handled most of the planning.

Hamill has a background in wrestling, winning three Division III National Championships at the Rochester Institute of Technology. After going 2-0 as a professional MMA fighter, he was named to the cast of season three of The Ultimate Fighter

In Hamill's post-TUF fight, he defeated Seth Petruzelli by third round unanimous decision in a bout that garnered Fight of the Night honors. He is also well known for being the only man to defeat former champion, Jon Jones

Hamill has fought in a variety of other promotions since 2015. In April, he scored a knockout over Luiz Cane at F2N: Fight2Night 2.
