Missouri Basketball Coach Cuonzo Martin Speaks at JJK Golf Tournament Luncheon

Missouri basketball coach Cuonzo Martin still holds deep connections to his hometown of East St. Louis. It is that common tie that also binds him to former Olympic track star Jackie Joyner-Kersee

Martin was the speaker at the JJK Golf Tournament Luncheon on May 22nd. The tournament took place at Stonewolf Golf Club in Fairview Heights, IL.

In addition to lunch, there was also dinner and an awards ceremony. Proceeds from all the events around the tournament benefited the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center in East St. Louis.

Martin is the first-year head coach at Missouri after spending the previous three seasons at California. He led the Golden Bears to a third-place finish in the Pac-12 and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016.

Martin was also the head coach at Tennessee for three seasons and took the Vols to the Sweet Sixteen in 2014. He got his first head coaching job at Missouri State, guiding the Bears to a Missouri Valley Conference regular season championship in 2011.

After a year as an assistant at West Lafayette High School, Martin began his coaching career at his alma mater, Purdue, in 2000. He was an All-Big Ten first-team pick as a player for the Boilermakers and played two NBA seasons.
