If new Memphis basketball coach Tubby Smith is going to revitalize the program, he knows his target audience.  Forming relationships with area coaches is key and he will be laying the groundwork for those bonds with an upcoming speaking engagement. 

Smith is speaking at the Arkansas Basketball Coaches Association Clinic.  It will be held next Tuesday, September 27th, at Hendrix College. 

There will be several other coaches speaking from various levels of basketball, but Smith is certainly the headliner.  His experience immediately carries credibility when entering a room of his peers. 

Memphis is the sixth Division 1 school that Smith has coached.  He has 19 seasons in his career where his teams have posted over 20 wins. 

At one point or another, all five programs he coaches have reached the NCAA Tournament.  Last year, he was named Big 12 Coach of the Year at Texas Tech.  

Smith's crowning career achievement was guiding Kentucky to the 1998 NCAA Championship.  He won five SEC titles and never missed the tournament in ten seasons with the Wildcats.
