Lasell College Names Female Sports Broadcasting Pioneer Lesley Visser Commencement Speaker

Sports broadcasting pioneer Lesley Visser is no stranger to Lasell College. She is from nearby Quincy, Massachusetts and will serve as the school's commencement speaker this spring.

The ceremony takes place on Sunday, May 14th at Taylor Field at the Newton campus. It is Lasell's 163rd annual graduation proceedings.

In addition to her presentation, Visser will receive an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters. It should be a unique experience to hear some words of wisdom from her.

Visser became the first woman ever hired as a sportswriter at The Boston Globe. In 1976, she became the first woman to serve as an NFL beat writer when the paper assigned her to cover the New England Patriots.

In the mid-1980s, Visser moved on to work in television at CBS Sports. She also worked for ABC/ESPN before a return to the network in 2000.

Visser is a recipient of the Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award from the Pro Football Hall of Fame. She was inducted into the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Hall of Fame in 2015.
