Kyle Maynard's athletic feats have inspired and stunned many. He shared his story on September 22nd at the Flagstaff Festival of Science. 

The event took place at Northern Arizona University's Ardrey Memorial Auditorium at 7 p.m. Maynard has a great connection with the Arizona city as some of his equipment used to scale mountains is manufactured there. 

The 28th annual Flagstaff Festival of Science spanned from September 22-October 1. The festival was free and open to the public and Maynard's visit was sponsored by W.L. Gore & Associates. 

Maynard was born with congenital amputation, a rare condition that stops arms growing below the elbow and legs growing around the knees. He did not let that slow him, becoming the first quadriplegic to scale the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro and Aconcagua without limbs or prosthetics. 

Maynard made his first headlines as an athlete during a high school wrestling career where he won 36 matches as a senior. He also was active in weight training and won the 2004 ESPY Award for Best Athlete with a Disability. 

Maynard won another ESPY in 2012 when he completed his climb of Kilimanjaro. He is a member of the Georgia State Wrestling Hall of Fame and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
