IndyCar Racer Charlie Kimball Keynotes Diabetes Expo

IndyCar racer Charlie Kimball lives every day as a diabetic athlete trying to compete at the highest level of his sport. He was able to share his experiences this weekend at an event in Apple Valley, Ohio. 

On Saturday, St. Joseph Health, St. Mary held the "Living Well with Diabetes" expo. The event ran from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Our Lady of the Desert Catholic Church's Ministry Building. 

There will be kids and teens interactive zones and several classes available as well. Kimball enjoys impacting a diabetes community he holds close to his heart. 

Kimball debuted in IndyCar in 2011 and picked up his first victory two years later at the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio. That year, he finished a career-best ninth in the year-end standings. 

Kimball duplicated the ninth-place showing again in 2016. He also triumphed at the 2013 24 Hours of Daytona. 

Kimball speaks about diabetes awareness as an ambassador for Novo Nordisk. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 22 in 2002.
