In 1971, Trevino was named the PGA Tour Player of the Year. He won the Vardon Trophy as the tour's leader in scoring average five times.

Trevino was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1981. He went on to great success on the Champions Tour and his 29 wins there rank third all-time.
