Houston Astros Reliever Joe Smith Keynotes Wright State First Pitch Banquet in February

Houston Astros reliever Joe Smith is heading back to where his major league dreams began to materialize. He is serving as the keynote speaker at Wright State's First Pitch Banquet. 

The event will be held on February 3rd at Moraine Country Club. It is being sponsored by Dusty Beam, CFP and Pathways Wealth Management. 

General admission tickets are $70 and a VIP table of ten is $1,000, with proceeds going to support the baseball program. The VIP registration includes a meet and greet cocktail reception with Smith prior to dinner. 

Smith was named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Year following his junior year at WSU. The New York Mets selected him in the third round of the 2006 MLB Draft. 

Smith made his big league debut with the Mets less than a year later and pitched for the club for two seasons. He has sustained success with the Cleveland Indians. notching three consecutive seasons with a sub-3.00 ERA while making over 70 appearances. 

Smith had the best season of his career in 2014, posting a 1.91 ERA while appearing in a career-high 76 games with the Los Angeles Angels. This offseason, he signed with the Astros.
