Hall of Famer Mel Blount Keynotes Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce Dinner Next Week

Next Wednesday, Hall of Famer Mel Blount is keynoting a special event. He will be in Wheeling, Ohio at the Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce Dinner. 

The dinner starts at 6 p.m. at Wheeling Park's White Palace. Blount will talk about his football career and his work with Mel Blount Youth Homes. 

In addition to his presentation, the Kathy Fortunato Award and the Community Commitment Award will be handed out. Tickets are available by calling the chamber office. 

Blount played his entire 14-year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was part of the famed "Steel Curtain Defense" that won four Super Bowls in the 1970s. 

In 1975, Blount led the league with 11 interceptions and was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year. He played in five Pro Bowls and was MVP of the game in 1976. 

After retiring, Blount spent six years as the NFL director of player relations. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1989.
