Hall of Fame Pitcher Phil Niekro Speaks at Field of Dreams Banquet

Baseball Hall of Famer Phil Niekro returned to one of his old stomping grounds Monday. He was a speaker at the Field of Dreams Banquet in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Niekro pitched in Tulsa while dominating minor league competition on the way to a successful big league career. He told stories of those days and also gave his predictions for who he thinks will be joining him this year in the Hall of Fame.

Former New York Yankees players Bob Shirley and Ralph Terry were also at the event. It was held at the Claremore Conference Center.

Niekro had a 24-year major league career and won 318 games. He spent the first 20 seasons pitching for the Braves franchise and was selected to five All-Star teams.

Niekro was one of the best fielders at his position and won five Gold Gloves. He led the National League in wins twice, strikeouts once and paced baseball in ERA in 1967.

Niekro is the most famous knuckleball pitcher of all-time and pitched until he was 48 years old. He was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 1997 and also has his jersey retired by the Atlanta Braves.
