Former Wide Receiver Michael Clayton Keynotes Write Field Program Graduation

Former NFL wide receiver Michael Clayton has made the most of his post-football life. He has served as a powerful mentor for many and last month spoke to the graduates of the Write Field Program.

The event was held at the Poynter Institute in Tampa, Florida on June 10th. The Write Field Program is a writing and academic achievement initiative for middle school boys of color in Pinellas County.

The program was completed over ten Saturdays that exposed the students to a variety of activities. Clayton stressed the importance of education in his presentation.

Clayton played his college football at LSU, where he won a national championship and left school as the program's career leader in touchdown receptions. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft.

Clayton had a standout rookie season for the Bucs, catching 80 passes for 1,193 yards and seven touchdowns. He spent six seasons with Tampa Bay and helped them win the NFC South Division in 2007.

Clayton spent the final two years of his career with the New York Giants and won Super Bowl XLVI. He now dedicates his efforts towards the Michael Clayton Generation Next Foundation.
