Former Pro Bowler DeMarcus Ware Keynotes Fall Commencement at Alma Mater

Before going on to a pro football career that will likely land him in the Hall of Fame, DeMarcus Ware was a standout player at Troy University. He was back on campus this weekend to speak at fall commencement.

Ware addressed the crowd of over 600 graduates about courage. He talked about failure being a potential stepping stone to success.

In addition to speaking, Ware also received an honorary degree. Students were particularly impacted by realizing that their speaker was a former Trojan.

Ware was the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year before being selected in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He played for the franchise until 2013 and left as the team's all-time leader with 117 sacks.

Ware went on to play three more seasons with the Denver Broncos and was part of the team that won Super Bowl 50. Overall, he was named to nine Pro Bowls and was a seven-time All-Pro.

Ware led the NFL in sacks while with the Cowboys in 2008 and 2010. He recorded seven straight seasons of ten-plus sacks.
