Former NFL Tight End Todd Heap Speaks at Ed Doherty Award Luncheon Next Month

Former NFL tight end Todd Heap was once considered the top high school football player in the state of Arizona. He will help honor the next person to hold that distinction as the keynote speaker at the Ed Doherty Award luncheon.

The event takes place December 3rd at The Scottsdale Resort at McCormick Ranch. It will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is organized by the Grand Canyon State Gridiron Club.

There will be 46 football players honored at the luncheon. It will also mark Heap's first speaking engagement since the tragic death of his daughter.

Heap played college football at Arizona State before being selected in the first round of the 2001 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. He spent ten of his 12 seasons playing for the Ravens.

Heap was a Pro Bowler in 2002 and 2003 and an All-Pro pick in 2003. He had his best statistical season in 2005, catching 75 passes for 855 yards and seven touchdowns.

Heap spent the final two seasons of his career with the Arizona Cardinals before retiring in 2013. He is a member of the Ravens' Ring of Honor and spends time as a commentator on the team's radio broadcasts.
