Former NFL Standout Randy Grimes Speaks at Sanilac Career Center Event

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers center Randy Grimes has a powerful story about cheating death and overcoming addiction. Last Wednesday, he was able to share his story with The Sanilac County chapter of Families Against Narcotics.

Grimes visited several local high schools before making a final appearance at the Sanilac Career Center. He spoke about how his addiction issues were enabled by the pressures of playing in the NFL.

Grimes also talked about what happened after his career and how difficult his road to recovery was. Families Against Narcotics is working on establishing a monthly guest speaker series to address the opioid epidemic.

Grimes found great success at Baylor University, where he was a member of the Bears' 1980 Southwest Conference championship team. The Buccaneers selected him in the second round of the 1983 NFL Draft.

From 1983-1992, Grimes made 108 starts at center for Tampa Bay. On two occasions, he was named an alternate for the Pro Bowl.

Grimes now leans on his experience in his role as an interventionist and certified recovery coach. He serves as a community liaison for Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches.
