Former NFL Running Back Johnathan Franklin Keynotes Boys and Girls Event

Johnathan Franklin had his football career cut short, but he is still impacting the game in different ways. He was able to share his story as the keynote speaker for the L.A. County Alliance for Boys and Girls Clubs' Teen Summit.

The annual event was held at the Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks. There were nearly 700 kids in attendance from Ventura, Los Angeles and Orange counties that participate in the Boys and Girls Club.

Franklin talked about attendees embracing their story and purpose. He wanted the kids in attendance to leave with a sense that it is ok to be who they are.

Franklin was a four-year starter in college at UCLA and is the Bruins' all-time leading rusher. As a senior, he ran for 1,734 yards and 13 touchdowns on the way to All-American and All-Pac 12 honors.

The Green Bay Packers selected Franklin in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He only played one NFL season after suffering a career-ending neck injury.

Upon retirement, Franklin became an intern with the Packers and then went on to work with Notre Dame athletics. He is currently an executive for community outreach and external affairs with the Los Angeles Rams.
