Former NFL Quarterback Ryan Leaf Speaks at Embrace Hope Event Next Month

Despite his football career being long in the past, former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf continues to make an impact in the community. Next month, he will be speaking at the Embrace Hope event in Huntington, West Virginia.

The fundraiser takes place from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at Big Sandy Arena's Grand Ballroom. It is sponsored by St. Mary's Foundation and raises money for Recovery Point of West Virginia's drug abuse treatments.

A VIP reception with Leaf will kick things off at 6 p.m. and tickets are currently available. The one-time top football prospect will talk about his own issues with substance abuse and the road to recovery.

Leaf was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy at Washington State University. The San Diego Chargers went on to select him with the second overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft.

Leaf just spent four years in the NFL before his career was derailed by several issues. Substance abuse became a more prominent force in his life, leading to an arrest in 2009.

Leaf even spent time in jail before turning his life around. Now he is a top speaker and serves as a program ambassador for Transcend Recovery Community.
