Former NFL Player Maurice Carthon Speaks at Youth Camp

A football lifer made an appearance at the Jonesboro Youth Fundamental Football Skills and Drills camp this weekend. Former NFL player and coach Maurice Carthon was the guest speaker on Saturday.

Carthon shared his journey from Region 8 to the NFL. The camp was held at Jonesboro High School from 9 a.m. to 12 pm. and it was geared towards kids in first through eighth grades. 

At-Risk American Male Educational Network and Whole Services, Inc. teamed to host the camp. Registration was $35 and campers received an autographed football from Carthon and tickets to Arkansas State's first game. 

Carthon played football at Arkansas State before making his professional debut with the New Jersey Generals in the USFL. He rushed for 1,042 yards in 1984 before joining the New York Giants in 1985. 

Carthon played for the Giants for seven seasons and won two Super Bowls with the franchise. He retired from playing after one final season with the Indianapolis Colts in 1992. 

Carthon went on to coach under his old head coach, Bill Parcells. He was an offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns.
