Former New York Mets Standout Tim Teufel Speaks a Danbury Westerners Celebrity Breakfast

The Danbury Westerners bring in a big-name baseball guest each year to speak at their Celebrity Breakfast. This year, they were able to get former New York Mets standout Tim Teufel to speak.

The event was held at the Amber Room Colonnade on June 9th. Teufel was a late replacement for his former Mets teammate, Dwight Gooden, who had to unexpectedly cancel.

The 23rd annual breakfast drew over 400 people. Teufel shared a message directed to the players who were in attendance and are scheduled to play for the Westerners in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.

Teufel was in the big leagues for 11 seasons after debuting for the Minnesota Twins in 1983. He was acquired by the Mets via trade before the 1986 season and helped them win a World Series.

Teufel played in New York until 1991 when he was traded to the San Diego Padres. He retired in 1993 and entered the coaching world as a roving instructor with the Mets in 2001.

Teufel served as a manager for several different Mets minor league affiliates and was the big league team's third base coach from 2012-16. He remains a minor league instructor and club ambassador for the franchise.
