A special speaker presented as the first ever Black Leadership and Awareness and Culture Club retreat. Former NBA player Jarron Collins spoke at the event on August 20th. 

Collins preached the need to work hard in school.  The retreat consisted of BLACC members from middle school and high school at Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles. 

Drawing upon his own experience as a basketball player, Collins talked about balancing school and extracurricular activities.  There was also an opportunity during the retreat for BLACC members during the school year. 

Collins played ten NBA seasons and spent the first eight of them with the Utah Jazz.  The Jazz originally selected him in the second round of the 2001 NBA Draft out of Stanford University. 

During Collins' rookie season, he started in a career-high 68 games while averaging 6.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.  Prior to arriving in the NBA, he was a two-time All-American at Stanford. 

When he retired from basketball, Collins became a scout for the Los Angeles Clippers.  He joined the Golden State Warriors as a development coach in 2014 and was promoted to an assistant coach role the following year.
